Yea for IV Iron. Rant Warning

I have been mildly anemic for about 6 years now. Every three months or so, I'd get another blood test and the Doc would say "oh just take some iron pills." I would reply "I AM taking iron pills and have been for years, they are not working." About 3 years ago I pointed this out to my Doctors and suggested maybe it was time to try something else.

To be fair my health is somewhat fubar and there is always something need of treatment. However since anemia is a base cause of (or the result of?) these illnesses one would think that treating it would help. My energy levels got so low I had to shut down my web business. I couldn't keep up.

Last month I hit one of my worst flares (from Fibormyalgia) in years, and it tanked my blood levels. So now I'm getting seven IV iron treatments to fix the problem. It seems to be working, I'm at the half way point and I'm starting to feel better.

I just can't decide if I should be pissed that this wasn't done earlier and maybe saved my business; or happy that I am getting better.

Flim 6

Finally had time to see the new HP movie. I really loved the opening scenes with the DEs flying all about. I saw the film with a friend who hasn't read the seventh book and she was a bit confused as to why the director did some of the things he did. We explained that he using foreshadowing for the next film.

I think that the Harry Potter and Star Wars (and soon Twilight) movies can't really be looked at as individual movies. They are all part of an over all story arc and really need to be viewed (and reviewed) as such.

Dear Mother Nature,

Thanks from everyone in PDX.

Camp Came 6 clue 1, 2, 3, 4

Powdered moonstone and syrup of hellebore are used to make the Draught of Peace. A useful potion for those with a fear of flying.

Mandrake Draught un-petrifiys everyone.

Babbling Beverage makes people talk nonsense.

Murtlap essence is what they used to counter Fever Fudge.

I don't know if there are 3 more potions (4 clues for 7 potions?) but knowing Miss Wartbobble I suspect a clever trick. Searching for clues on her blog I found this post, could this be where the other potions are? dun dun daaaaa.

Camp Game 5 part 2

I decided to draw out my answers, since I didn't have time to find things to photograph. Of course I ran out of time on the drawings too as I had to take a friend to the er. (She is fine.) So here are my rough sketches and cartoons for this game. I combined the answers into one picture when I could. My Marker is my orange travel pencil box.

McGonagall Changes for ANIMAGUS

The Toad is Pissed for HIGH INQUISITOR, EDUCATIONAL DECREE,

The Bowtuckle meets Luna for BOWTRUCKLE, EXTENDABLE EAR and RADISH EARRINGS.

Meeting in the Forest for THESTRAL and FORBIDDEN FOREST.

Off to Ikea again and again.

Something that never happened to me before happened at Ikea today. I went in with my list firmly in hand, know exactly what I wanted and could afford. Then it happened, They LOWERED the prices on the items I was there for. This completely derailed me. Now I could get what I really wanted, not just what I could fit into the budget. Really Really confused, I was forced to retie for the evening as the store was closing. Tomorrow I will return with a new list and try again.

Off in the wilds of Connecticut

Well I'm visiting family this week and part of next week. I forget how much energy kids have. My niece and nephew have me running all over the place. Rebecka, my niece, gave me a hand with this weeks camp game.

We went to Sherwood Island beach the other day. It is the beach we always went to as kids. It has changed alot, adding a Nature Center and several park areas. It was a great deal of fun, and no one got sunburned! A First I think.

I made up some Lavender sugar and hope to make some Lavender jam this weekend. It is my contribution to the family meals.

Recipe for Lavender Sugar (or any flavored sugar really)

1 tlsp of Lavender for every cup of sugar .
Mix in a food prosesser.

And you're done! easy yes?

I'll post the Jam recipe if it comes out all right.

LOST: Two Cows

The DH and I took a break from unpacking today. We went to the Hillsboro Farmers Market and inadvertently the Hillsboro 4th of July parade. We pigged out on blueberries, raspberry and fresh made mini donuts.

Since I'll be away next week (thus missing the Oregon Lavender Festival) we went out to one of the local lavender farms to view the fields. They weren't quite in full bloom yet but views were lovely. We caught a bit of an alpaca auction which was going on next door. $2000 per animal! sheesh no wonder the yarn cost alot.

As we were driving out we saw a sign "LOST: two cows" it had us both cracking up.

Camp Game 2

In the second volume of the HP books by JK Rowling, The (#1)Chamber of Secrets, we continue to learn the incredible adventures of Hogwarts student (#2) Harry Potter and his friends (#3) Ron Weasley and (#4)Hermione Granger. Belonging to the house of (#5) Gryffindor, they attend Defense Against the (#6) Dark Arts taught by Wizarding celebrity (#7) Gilderoy Lockhart, a none-too-bright fellow who cannot even handle pixies!

In The (#8) Chamber of Secrets, we also meet Dobby a (#9)House Elf for the first time. Determined Dobby seeks to sabotage the return of (#10) Harry Potter to Hogwarts and is pretty persistent but is unsuccessful. After a few weeks at school, the deceased Ravenclaw student who haunts the girls lavatory, also known as (#11) Moaning Myrtle, shows (#12) Harry Potter and (#13) Ron Weasley an old empty diary that dropped through her ghostly form out of thin air!

Many nifty things continue to happen for the next several months… we won’t go into all the juicy details right now… however, the ending is prime reading indeed!! (#14) Harry Potter finally kills Tom Riddle’s (a.k.a #15 Voldemort) sneaky diary (which we now know is a #16) Horcrux and saves the sister of (#17) Ron Weasley, (#18) Ginny Weasley!!!

Oh! Of course, we must mention that the thickheaded (#19) Gilderoy Lockhart unintentionally erased his own memory, so he won’t be back for book three, The (#20) Prisoner of Azkaban

The lie

And the Lie is... #3 I met my husband in college not highschool.

1) 1776 is a broadway musical and a movie (of the musical). It came out a few years before 1976. My all girl high school performed the musical becuase the producer's daugther was in my class. There are only 2 female parts in the play so the rest of us played men. To make it funnier, I was a high saprano at the time.

2) I really did learn to cross country ski at 5. My dad was a big fan of the sport and had us out and about as soon as my brother could walk. My brother went on to compete at a national level until he blew out his knees.

4) Who wouldn't love Tamora Perice and Terry Prachett, their books are awesome.

1. I once played Roger Sherman in 1776.

2. I learned to Cross Country ski when I was five.

3. I married my high school sweetheart.

4. Tamora Perice and Terry Prachett are my favorite authors.

I have internet again!!

Wowsers, It has been uber busy the past few days. We had painters, installers and plumbers running all over the place finishing up the work on our new house. All we need to do now finish moving the rest of our stuff over.

On the plus side while I was waiting for all these people to finish I started on a recycled yarn sweater. The color ways are named the same but the colors are all over the place because the spinner added whatever colors where in front of her. Should make a funky looking summer sweater when I'm done.

Monday, June 15, 2009

Hey all.

I will be without internet (sob) from Mon 6/15 till Wed 6/17.

See ya all then.

Good News: One week till closing on the house. 12 days until we can truly call it our own. We have a POD and are filling it up quickly.

I'm going to try and make the Bag I made for Diana into a pattern on Ravelry, I just need to test knit it again.

The awesome Esmerelda Beanswallow sent my kit a bit ago, but I have been too busy being fogged to post about it. Above the sea of yellow paper.

Looks like someone hitched a ride in the package. She seems to like sleeping in my kit bag.

Greeny stuff for shopping, complete with time turner. My DH was amused by this addition to our shopping bags.
I couldn't quite fit the pattern into the shot, but it is a hat and mitten pattern (from Twilight?) called Gianna Hat & Mittens. The pads will given a place of honor in my new kitchen

The Story of Floyd or the Scavenger Hunt

Hi, I'm Floyd. I'm a bristle browed blue nosed dragon from Sweden.
Today my friend Felly and I went on a Photo Scavenger Hunt.

The First thing we found was a red and black cloak. It was very warm.

The second thing was this pretty pewter cup. It was used in Felly's marriage ceremony.

3) This is my favorite book, "Bride of the Slime Monster".
It is a story of why it is bad to give devil's snare kona coffee.

4) This is Felly's diadem. It was made by her friend Heather for her wedding.

5) This picture frame holds one of Felly's drawings. It is called "Wave"

6) This is an old diary of Felly's from when she was in NYC.

7) These fiery glass eyes are from a plate.
Felly's brother got this gift for her in Sweden. It is called "The Kiss"

11) Phew, finding all this stuff has made me tried. My friend Owl took a nap with me.
I will miss friend owl as he will be winging his way to a new home soon.

12) Felly's DH was nice enough to lend her a pint of his best brew for the hunt.

13) He also modeled his scar for us.

14) This is my friend Shamrock the pig.
He is called that because ... well he has shamrocks on him.

15) Felly doesn't like snakes much and her Mom (and Mom-in-law)
are terrified of them. I was able to find a picture of one in a book though.

16) I love Lord of the Rings and this statue came with the DVD set.

18) Felly's DH is a big Buffalo Sabres fan. I like this flag cause of the swords.

19) We took this picture from the car, as it was raining really hard.
You can still see the tombstones even with the rain.

Hope you enjoyed all my pictures. Bye.

Paperwork and sleepless in PDX

This week has been all about the paperwork. Taxes, mortgages and social security forms all needing to be filled in and mailed. I got most of them done and out the door. Sadly I haven't been sleeping so I've gotten a bit fuzzy around the edges. I'm looking forward to going to the Better Living Show this weekend. (Assuming I can some more sleep)

A Break of sunshine.

Dear Granny F,

Sorry I haven't written in a while but I've been really sick. I even had to miss the Hogsmeade weekend. Did you know that you can get a flu in the ear? Had me tilting sideways for a week. I did do a bunch of drawing (in bed) while waiting for the potions to work.

I'm almost done with the term's BIG project, just need a few items, a printout and my beads. Of course it would help if I could FIND the darn beads. They disappeared into the wilds of my room. I may even have to *shudder* clean!

I was sorry to hear you've been banned from Boston. I still have trouble with the idea that sweet Mrs Tooner was arrested for hitting a police officer with her purse. I mean she was just protecting the ostriches. Mrs. Gullysnap is the one who should been arrested after all she is the one who let them out of the zoo.

I've included a drawing for you. Have fun on your way west.

Love Felly
This is a drawing of one of the infirmary portraits she is the famous potions mistress Hesper Starkey.

Letter 2

Dear Granny F,

Sounds like you had a blast in NYC. Say Hi to your fellow red helmetters for me.

School has been uber uber busy. Thank goodness i'm in hufflepuff otherwise I'd be sooooooo lost. I heard that the Gryffindors and Slytherin first years are expected to find their own way around the castle!

So far my favorite class is charms. I can't wait to try some of the stuff I read in Dad's charm's books. Mom was right about Potions, it is all about the prep.

The fat friar is really nice. He let me draw him and said he'd ask the house elves if I can draw them.

Got to get back to work, I have two essays due this week. Have fun in Rhode Island and Newport.

Love Felly.

Hufflepuff Quiz

First homework assignment!

1) When did you first learn to knit - who taught you, how did you learn, what was your first project?

My Mom taught me back when I was a girl scout. I didn’t do it for long. I never really got past the swatch stage. My brother though, went on to make all his hats for when he was competitive cross-country skier.

Years later a friend introduced me to the Knifty Knitter Loom and I was pulled back into knitting. Now I have close to a dozen looms and several different types of needles and crochet hooks. I’m learning to spin with a drop spindle as well. I mainly loom knit as it is easier on my wrists and arms but will try anything fiber wise at least once.

2) What is your favorite knitting project and why? Was it the yarn your chose? Shaping? What drew you to it?

Mmm Tough question. Uh whatever one I’m currently working on? If I have to pick one I would say my Swedish Throw, which can be found in my Ravelry projects. I learned a lot on that one and it lead to me the abstract wall hangings I’m currently working on. I enjoyed using multiple types of yarn to create different textures and colors. It was also my first big project.

First Day

Dear Granny F,

Well I'm here at "the school" ;p safe and sound. I've been sorted into Hufflepuff! The dorm is just like Mum and Da said it would be.

The train ride was long though, couldn't wait for it to be over. I'll bet it will be better next time when I know more people. I've added a picture Mum took at the station.

Really tired after the long trip, I'll write again.

Love Felly

PS. How is New York?
